4 Days Virunga Gorillas and Mount Nyiragongo Safari Details
Visit two of the greatest Congo attractions with this 4 days package. Mount Nyiragongo and Virunga National Park are apparently the most visited safari attractions in Congo.
Day 1: Pick-up in Kigali and cross to Goma
Depending on your location in Kigali, our company representative/guide and transfer you to Goma via Gisenyi border. You can have an option of a city tour visiting the Kigali Genocide memorial or craft shops. This is a 4 hours’ drive to Gisenyi, en route lunch and visit the oldest King’s palace in Nyanza. The road is winding so driving is slow going. On reaching Gisenyi, go through the border clearance process then enter Goma and connect to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Mikeno lodge (Luxury), Lac Kivu Lodge (Midrange), Ihusi Hotel (Budget).
Day 2: Virunga gorilla trekking experience
Wake up very early, have your breakfast and meet your driver to transfer to Bukima, a starting point for the activity, with your packed food, water and trekking gears, meet the park ranger guides and porters (will help in carrying your luggage if you wish). The search for the gorillas takes about 2-8 hours depending on the movement of the creatures. On finding the mountain gorillas, you will be allowed an hour to spend with the gorillas. Retreat from the activity and return to meet your driver will drop take you back to your lodge. Dinner and overnight stay at lodge as above.
Day 3: Hike Mt. Nyiragongo Volcano
Wake up early for breakfast at your hotel and set off for Kibati Patrol post, where the nyiragongo Volcano hike starts from. Hiking formally starts off at 9:00 am, with briefing about the hike and what to expect. You are advised to pack right for the hike, and to hire a porter. Start your hike with your guide and armed guards for your security. Hiking usually last the entire day, and the pace is determined by the groups’ fitness level. Please note that the group moves in one group and rests at the same time. When you reach the top, you will check into your cabins and in the night, go out to watch the beautiful sight of the boiling lava.
Day 4: Descend down the Volcano- Kigali
You will have breakfast before you descend back to starting point of the hike. Later transfer to Gisenyi via Goma and then to Kigali for lunch and later proceed straight to the airport for your flight back home. End of Tour
