Hotel Rwanda

Hotel Rwanda is a movie based on a true story of a man who stood up the atrocities in Rwanda during the Rwandan genocide; he opened up his hotel for many refugees who were affected by the genocide. This movie gives great insight to the Rwandan genocide.

The film features songs written by several recording artists like Deborah Cox and Wyclef Jean. The film score was composed by Afro Celt sound system and Rupert Gregson Williams. Hotel Rwanda was written by Keir Pearson, directed and produced by Terry George, starring Sophie Okenedo, Joaquin Phoenix, Don’t Cheadle and Nick Nolte. It was released in the 22nd of December 2004. The historicaldram film has been called an African Schidlers list.

Hotel Rwanda was co produced by Lions gatefilms and united artists commercially distributed theatrically and for home media by Metro Goldwyn-Mayor. The original motion sound track was released by the commotion label on the 11th of January 2005.

The Rwandan genocide spark off between the Hut and the Tutsi people of Rwanda, the genocide saw the killings of millions of people who were brutally murdered while the world looked on. The manager of Hotel des Collins (Hotel Rwanda) was a Hutu while the wife was a Tutsi while the goods supplier to the hotel was a local leader of interahamwe a brutal Hutu Militia.

The manager and his wife observed neighbors being killed at the spark of the Rwandan genocide when the president was assassinated; he tries to buy favor using money and alcohol.

The film has been nominated 3 Oscars, 16 wins and 45 nominations.

The Rwandan genocide took place in 1994 when the tension between the Hutu and the Tutsi people led to a civil war that saw the killing of over 800,000 people in a period of 100 days. The Tutsi people were brutally murdered in violent ways while the world stood still.

The genocide spark off when a plane carrying the Rwandan president Juvenal Habyarimana was shot down in Kigali, the president was a Hutu and this caused the Hutu extremists to mobilize the killing of all the Tutsi people in Rwanda.

Rusesabagina often bribed the Hutu soldiers in order to save the Tutsi refugees and his wife, George was determined to tell the story of Rusesabagina and portrayed him as a humanitarian. Principal filming was shot in a location in Kigali and Johannesburg.

A paperback novel was also published by New market press titled “Hotel Rwanda” realized on the 7th of February 2005, the boom brings the true story of how Paul Rusebagana managed to save his family and about 1,200 people in the hotel he managed during the genocide.
