Trailing to Gishwati Mukula National Park : Gishwati Mukura National Park is a beautiful place to visit in Rwanda. Located in the central highlands, it is a great place to see numerous species of animals and plants. The park is 1,039 square kilometers in size and was established to help protect many of the animals that live in Rwanda. As you walk through the park you are likely to see buffalo, antelope, zebras, lions and giraffes along with many other different types of animals. There are also several trails that you can explore while you are in the park or you can go on one of the many game drives to see the park from a different perspective. The park is open all year but it is advisable to visit between June and September when the weather is warmer and the animals are more active. If you visit during the rainy season you will be able to enjoy views of the beautiful waterfalls that can be found in Gishwati Mukura National Park.

Hikers will be spoilt for choice in Gishwati Mukura National Park as there are several different trails available to explore. The hardest of these is the Mount Visoke Trail which will take around two days to complete. However, several shorter trails are also well worth taking and are easy to complete in one day. The trails are well maintained so you don’t have to worry about getting lost while you explore the park and they are well marked so you will never lose your way.

The longest trail in Gishwati Mukura National Park is the Mount Visoke Trail and it takes two days to complete. Starting at an altitude of 2,600 meters the trail will take you through the forest before emerging onto the alpine grasslands where you will spend most of the rest of the day walking. There are no shops along the trail so make sure you bring plenty of water with you while you visit.

There are eight different trails located in Gishwati Mukura National Park. Each trail has its own unique features and you should try and take them all if you have the time. One of the easiest trails is the Musanze Trail which runs for just over six kilometers and takes just a couple of hours to complete. It is especially good for children as there is plenty for them to see and do along the way. The Mihindi Loop Trail is another great option if you are looking to spend a little less time on the trail but is still lots of fun. This trail is good for families as it only takes a few hours to complete and there is plenty of wildlife to spot along the way.
