Visit the Great Rift Valley of Central Africa is a stunning and immense geological feature. It stretches for more than 1,500 miles from Ethiopia in the east to Kenya in the west and contains some of our planet’s most spectacular landscapes. It is an amazing place to go and see if you’re ever on an African safari tour and it’s definitely worth spending a day or two exploring! Here are just some of the things you can see and places you can visit:
Rwanda lies in this great rift valley. It’s a small country with a tiny population but is an incredibly beautiful place to explore! It has a really lively culture and a really interesting history. There are lots of interesting things to see and do there, so I would definitely recommend gong for a Rwanda safari tour if you get the chance!
Lake Kivu is located in the Albertine Rift, which is part of the Great Rift Valley. It spans an area of 2700 square kilometres and is linked to Lake Tanganyika through the Ruzizi River. The lake experiences volcanic eruptions on a regular basis, Visit the Great Rift Valley of Central Africa.
One of the largest islands in the lake is Idjwi, which is situated in the lake. This lake is characterized by its magnificent scenery, which includes the blue mountains and misty forests. The three lakes that are known to explode are Lake Kivu, Lake Monoun, and Nyos. These lakes experience violent overturns. The composition of the gases in these bodies of water is unique. In Kivu’s case, the interaction between the volcano and the water caused carbon dioxide and methane to form.
If an overturn occurs, it could cause an explosion that could destroy the entire basin and create tsunamis. Recent studies have shown that there is a huge gas reserve beneath the lake floor. This natural gas could be used to fuel the country’s energy industry and sell it to other countries.
Visit the many Maasai villages in the area and see them going about their daily life in a traditional way. There are lots of amazing Maasai warriors who can be seen on horseback riding through the villages and competing with each other in games and challenges such as spear throwing and archery. There are also lots of cultural performances and festivals that take place throughout the year and you can go and see these on your next Rwanda safari.
You can go hiking in the mountains and do some rock climbing too if you like. There are beautiful waterfalls and lakes to hike around and many of the mountains are dormant volcanoes so you can even do some mountain climbing if you’d like! , Visit the Great Rift Valley of Central Africa
You can go white water rafting down one of the rivers such as the Nile or Zambezi! or kayaking on the lakes like Lake Kivu which is surrounded by gorgeous green mountains. There are some great opportunities for water sports in this area and it’s definitely one of my favourite things to do when I visit!
These are just a few examples of what you can do in the Great Rift Valley. It has lots of different landscapes and different types of scenery so you can really see a lot of different sides of African culture here. I highly recommend it if you’re visiting East Africa any time soon!
Rwanda is in one of the most beautiful countries in the world and it is one of the most accessible African countries to visit. There are so many wonderful things to see and do here – particularly if you are interested in seeing traditional African cultures and customs up close. Some of the countries in this part of Africa are perhaps most famous for their wildlife and the parks and reserves where you can see animals in their natural environments but for me, the thing that really makes it a special place is the local people and their warm and welcoming attitude which makes the whole place feel very peaceful and relaxing. The people here are friendly and welcoming and I love spending time with them and learning about their culture and way of life.
