Detailed itinerary
Day1: Transfer to Bukavu- DR Congo
In the morning, you will be picked by the driver from your hotel in Kigali and drive southwards to Cyangugu boarder on the way to Bukavu in DR Congo. You will have a stopover in Butare, where you will visit the national museum of Rwanda, the king’s palace in Nyanza, and the Rwanda genocide memorial site. After lunch, continue on a scenic journey to Bukavu with wonderful views of the hills in Rwanda through the tropical forest of Nyungwe National park and a clear view of Lake Kivu. Dinner and overnight at Panorama Hotel
Day 3: Lowland Gorilla tracking tour in Kahuzi Biega
In the morning, you will head for the memorable adventure of tracking the lowland gorillas in Kahuzi Biega National park. Tracking lowland Gorillas is very amazing, lowland Gorillas differ from the mountain gorillas, the lowland gorillas are bigger in size, usually takes 1-4 hours tracking the lowland Gorillas. The lowland Gorillas stay in bigger families as compared to mountain gorillas; you will not regret the safari effort once you meet the amazing Gorillas! Later in the afternoon drive back to your hotel. Dinner and overnight at Panorama Hotel
Day 3: Hike mount Kahuzi Biega National Park
After an early morning breakfast at a your hotel, you will then participate in Mount Kahuzi biega hike which will help you watch a number of attractions like the numerous bird species for instance; like yellow crested- helmet shrike, sunbirds, trogons, Graud’s broad bill, Shelley’s crimson wing, Congo peafowl, Rwenzori Batis, Dusky turtle love, paradise flycatcher, double collared sunbird, marsh harrier, long-crested eagle handsome Francolin as you hike mount Kahuzi and Biega. You will also get the chance to see rewarding views of the mountains as you get to see a number of primates swinging from one tree branch to another, you will also get the chance to see rewarding views of lake kivu
Day 4: Transfer back to Kigali
After your safari you will then make your way back to Kigali city. On reaching Kigali, you can take part in Kigali city tour if time is willing. After you will be dropped off at a location of your choice in Kigali city or Kigali international airport.
Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes national park and afternoon community tour
You will be met by your driver guide at your agreed location in Kigali city to transfer to Volcanoes National Park where you will arrive in time to participate in Ibyi’wacu cultural village tour. Have a guided walk around the village at the different sites that exhibit the different aspects of the people of at the village to have a insight about the interesting features of the culture of the people of Rwanda. You will get to see the replica of the king’s palace where you will get to see the architecture that they used during the olden times which involves the use of grass and cow dung to establish strong house structures. At the king’s palace you will get to see a medicine man that is mixing a number of herbs that were used to cure a number of diseases like bareness and impotence, stomach upsets, fever and many more. If you’re interested, you can also get involved in mixing the herbs which will give you an authentic experience. After the experience head to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Gorilla trekking and transfer back to Kigali
As early at 6am, you will be expected to be up for breakfast and ready to set off for the trek. Our guide will meet you after having your breakfast and your lunches packed and he will take you to Kinigi Headquarters where you are expected to be given a brief before starting the gorilla trek. This brief is done at 7am. You are given guidelines during this brief before you are allowed to start the trek. This gorilla trek can take to about 2 hours to half a day as its unpredictable. When you finally find the gorillas, you will have to maintain a 7 meters’ distance and you are allowed one hour to admire and take photos of the gorillas. After the trek, you will then embark on your journey back to Kigali and the end of your safari.
