Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
You will be picked by the driver from your hotel in Kigali or a location of your choice in Kigali and drive southwards to Nyungwe Forest National Park. You will have a stopover in Butare, where you will visit the national museum of Rwanda, the king’s palace in Nyanza with lunch en-route. Before you make your way to the Park you will have a stopover at the Huye women’s coffee Cooperative which will take you on a 2 hour’s safari at the coffee plantation understanding more about the coffee making process from harvesting, sorting, cleaning until it is processed. You will also get to watch how coffee has improved the livelihoods of the neighboring communities through women empowerment for an amazing safari experience. After the safari experience, make your way to the park and check in your hotel. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe hill top view hotel (mid-range accommodation) Gisakura visitor center (budget)
Day 2: Chimpanzee habituation and transfer back to Kigali city
After an early morning breakfast at your hotel, you will make your way to Gisovu chimpanzee community where you will embark on chimpanzee habituation in Nyungwe National Park, which will give you the chance to watch the species and how they are trained to get accustomed to human presence. Interesting about chimpanzee habituation is the fact that it is an all-day activity which will give you the opportunity to spend more time with the species watching their different training sessions. During your chimpanzee habituation process in the park will give you the chance studying their behavior, feeding patterns, how they build their nests and many other rewarding features of the chimpanzees. After the safari experience, you will head back to your starting point where you will be presented your chimpanzee habituation certificate. After you will connect with your guide who will drive you back to Kigali city where you will be dropped off at hotel des mille collines for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3 : Transfer to Akagera National Park and boat cruise
At an agreed location in Kigali City, you will be met by your guide who will transfer you to Akagera National Park to take part in a short game drive which will give you the chance to watch a number animal species like the early risers grazing and enjoying the morning sun. After the morning game drive, you will head to your hotel for relaxation, lunch and you will take part in the boat cruise of Lake Ihema which will give you access to a number of rewarding views and attractions like the endangered show bill stork you will access to a number of carnivores like the lions, leopards and many more species or stay at your hotel for dinner and overnight stay
Day 4: Morning game drive and departure
Rise up early in the morning have breakfast and go for a morning game drive with great anticipation of seeing the different animals which rise early to graze and predators looking for their early morning kill especially the big cats like the leopard, lions and many other carnivores. You will get to watch a number of herbivores like the rhinos grazing within the plains, elephants, gazelle, oribi and many other rewarding game animals. After the morning game drives, you will head back to your hotel for refreshments and later in the afternoon transfer to take part in the evening game drive. Get ready to watch how the park comes to life as the sunsets with a number of predators coming from their hiding spots to catch prey, the herbivores catching their last bite for the day, the crocodiles can be seen sun-basking, elephants quenching their thirst from the river banks which will make your safari quite memorable. After the experience, you will make your way back to Kigali city where you will be dropped off at a location of your choice and this will mark the end of your 4 days chimpanzee habituation and a game drive in akagera national park.
