Day 1: Full day game drive
Summary of what is included: This full day game drive includes access to a 4×4 safari land cruiser with a pop-up roof, with a driver guide and additional park guide from 10:00-5 pm. It is up to you to communicate with your driver guide about when you would like to be picked up and dropped off at your hotel throughout the day.
As early as 4:30 am or 5:00 am, you will be picked up by your guide who will rise up early with your packed lunch and go for a game drive with great anticipation of seeing the different animals which rise early to graze and predators like the lions, hyenas, leopards, and many more looking for their early morning kill. Have a break for lunch at one of the picnic spots or cafes within the Park (with toilet facilities), and then continue with the game drive in the afternoon. Throughout the day, your guide will be able to suggest game drive destinations based on recent animal sightings.
Day 2: Full day bird watching tour and the boat cruise
Summary of what is included: This birding day includes a morning boat ride along Lake Ihema from 9 am-10 am, and access to the safari jeep with driver guide and additional bird guide from 6:00 am-5 pm. It is up to you to communicate with your driver guide about when you would like to be picked up and dropped off at your hotel throughout the day. For lunch, you can take a break at your hotel or at one of the picnic spots or cafés within the Park.
Day 2 details: After enjoying your morning breakfast, you will enjoy a boat trip along Lake Ihema, which will give you the opportunity to get close to the plentiful water birds, including numerous African fish eagles, marabou stork, crowned cranes, open-billed stork, cormorants, kingfishers, herons, and egrets. If you are lucky, you may even get to see the elusive shoebill stork! During the boat trip along Lake Ihema, you will see game like hippopotamuses, crocodiles, and elephants quenching their thirst from the river banks. After this, you can embark on the rest of your bird watching journey at Akagera National Park! Visitors are always impressed by what they find, including a variety of bird species ranging from water, forest, savannah, and migratory species. Many of these birds are endemic to the park, and some are exceptionally rare, like the papyrus Gonolek. After the safari experience, you will head back to Kigali city, where you will be dropped off at a location of your choice, and at the end of your 2 days birding and big five game drive in Rwanda
