Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes and golden monkey trekking
Your guide at a location you agreed on in Kigali city or the Kigali international airport to transfer you to Volcanoes National Park will pick you up. The drive to Volcanoes National Park will take about 4 hours from Kigali; therefore, an early pickup/ start is highly recommended in order to make it in time for your golden monkey trekking experience. Golden monkey trekking in Rwanda starts at 7:00 am or 7:30 am, and this will start with the briefing session for golden monkey trekking. After the session, you will be assigned to a guide and ranger to ensure your safety in the park. The safari experience involves hiking the Virunga mountains in Rwanda to access the habituated golden monkey troops. The golden monkeys are found within the high elevations of the mountains, and this will lead you to the bamboo trees where they can be seen. You will access a number of different animal species, like the forest elephants, elands, warthogs, and a number of bird species, like the Albertine endemic species. When you get to the golden monkey troops, you will observe several rewarding features of the species, observe how they co-exist with one another, take pictures, ask questions, and so on. After an hour elapses with the species, you will head to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Rwanda and departure
Have breakfast at your hotel, and also ask for your packed lunch, and head to Kinigi headquarters for the briefing session for gorilla trekking in Rwanda. Just like golden monkey trekking, you will get to hike the Virunga mountains in Rwanda to access the habituated gorilla family that you have been assigned to. You will spend an hour with the gorilla family observing their behavior in their natural habitat, you will watch their grooming patterns, and their social hierarchy. You will watch the dominant silverback, who has all the mating rights with the females in the gorilla family, take pictures with the species after your gorilla trekking experience in Rwanda. Connect with your guide and transfer you back to Kigali city or Kigali international airport, and this will mark the end of your 2 days Volcanoes National Park safari (Albertine endemic primate species safari).
