The park is found in the north-western part of Uganda spreading from the shores of Lake Albert around the Victoria Nile, up to Karuma falls.

Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison falls national park, is the largest national park in Uganda managed by the Uganda wildlife Authority.

The park adjacent 749kilometres of Bugungu wildlife reserve and approximately 720 kilometers  towards the Karuma wildlife Reserve.

The park is located in surrounding district of Nwoya, Bulisa, Kiryandongo and Masindi. The park is near the largest town Masindi in the north-west of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda.

This is where the location of the Murchison falls flows through a narrow gorge only 7metres wide before plunging in a 43metres.

There large herds of Buffaloes and elephants, Rothschild Giraffes, leopards, lions, species of antelopes such as Jackson’s hartebeest, kob, bushbucks, warthogs, waterbucks, Nile crocodiles.

The park protects species of primates including the olive Baboons, monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, and a number of chimpanzees can be spotted during a nature walk

Murchison falls National Park was explored by Sir John Speke and James Grant, both of them where the first people to explore the Murchison falls. Although it was thoroughly explored by Samuel and Florence Baker in was named after Roderick Murchison by Sir Samuel Baker.

Murchison falls ,adjacent to Bugondo forest Reserve  which protects over 76 species of mammals as well as Uganda’s largest population of crocoddiles,400 bird speciesincluding variety of water birds these include the rare shoe-billed stork, and other species such as dwarf kingfisher,Goliath heron,higher white-thighed hornbill and the great blue turaco.

Activities at the park and Attractions.

There are two boat cruises on the Nile Murchison falls national park, there is a boat up stream which takes you to the top of the falls which takes you to the far north, a journey that takes one to the longest river in the world stretching to the shores of Lake Albert.

Visit the beautiful falls with great views of the falls, and soothing sounds. The boat launch gives you an opportunity to view the hippos, Nilecrocodiles, elephants,waterbucks,buffaloes,kobs, giraffe which tend to gather on the banks of the river drinking water.

Travelers at Murchison falls have an opportunity to explore the top of the falls. Hike to the top of the falls, get off the boat cruise and have a 45minute walk to the falls to enjoy a beautiful view of the falls as they forge through hard rocks cruising and roaring sound.

The adjacent Budongo forest is an excellent area for chimpanzee trekking. During the safari, do an all day chimpanzee habituation experience, as one hike through a nature walk as you trail through the Budongo forest. Have a face to face encounter with the human cousin of man.
