Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe national park
You will be picked by the driver from your hotel in Kigali or a location of your choice in Kigali and drive southwards to Nyungwe Forest National Park. You will have a stopover in Butare, where you will visit the national museum of Rwanda, the king’s palace in Nyanza with lunch en-route. Before you make your way to the Park you will have a stopover at the Huye women’s coffee Cooperative which will take you on a 2 hour’s safari at the coffee plantation understanding more about the coffee making process from harvesting, sorting, cleaning until it is processed. You will also get to watch how coffee has improved the livelihoods of the neighboring communities through women empowerment for an amazing safari experience. After the safari experience, make your way to the park and check in your hotel. Alternatively, you can participate in the canopy walk which will give you the chance to watch the park and its different attractions from a suspended metallic walkway which will give you exceptional views of the park. Day 2: Chimpanzee habituation and transfer back to Kigali city
After an early morning breakfast at your hotel, you will make your way to Gisovu chimpanzee community where you will embark on chimpanzee habituation in Nyungwe national park which will give you the chance to watch the species and how they are trained to get accustomed to human presence. Interesting about chimpanzee habituation is the fact that it is an all-day activity which will give you the opportunity to spend more time with the species watching their different training sessions. During your chimpanzee habituation process in the park will give you the chance studying their behavior, feeding patterns, how they build their nests and many other rewarding features of the chimpanzees. After the safari experience, you will head back to your starting point where you will be presented your chimpanzee habituation certificate. After you will connect with your guide who will drive you back to Kigali city where you will be dropped off at hotel des mille collines, where you will enjoy your dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes national park
You will be met by your driver guide at your hotel and transfer to volcanoes national park where you will arrive in time to participate in Ibyi’wacu cultural village tour. Have a guided walk around the village at the different sites that exhibit the different aspects of the people of at the village to have a insight about the interesting features of the culture of the people of Rwanda. You can also get the chance to visit the Musanze caves which have a rich cultural attributes which will give you the opportunity to understand more about the history of the people of Rwanda, the caves were used as coronation grounds for the Kings of Rwanda. After the experience head to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking and transfer back to Kigali
After an early morning breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up from your hotel. our guide will meet you after having your breakfast and your lunches packed and he will take you to Kinigi Headquarters where you are expected to be given a brief before starting the gorilla trek. This brief is done at 7am. You are given guidelines during this brief before you are allowed to start the trek. This gorilla trek can take to about 2 hours- 7 hours depending in the species which you will get to spend an hour with them observing a number of their rewarding features including how they go about their daily activities from watching the leaders of the group, the silverbacks who have all the mating rights with all the females of the group. After the safari experience, you will make your way to transfer back to Kigali city where you will be dropped off at a location of your choice in the city.
