Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park and Ihema Boat Cruise.
On day 1 of the 6 Days Rwanda Safari, you will be met by your driver guide at your agreed location in Kigali to transfer to Akagera National Park where you will arrive in time to embark on an early morning game drive that will give you the chance to watch a number of game animals especially the herbivores like the elephants grazing within the plains, the rhinos, you will also get to see a number of remarkable views for the park and a number of rewarding attractions after your game drive you will be transferred to the lodge for lunch and refreshments and later on participate in the afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you will see a game like hippopotamuses, Crocodiles and many bird species like the endangered shoe bill stork, African Kingfishers catching their prey from the Lake that lives around the lake and the surrounding swamps. Day 2: Half day Game drive and transfer to Nyungwe
On day 2 of the 6 Days Rwanda Safari, rise up early in the morning have breakfast and go for a morning game drive with great anticipation of seeing the different animals that rise early to graze and predators looking for their early morning kill, especially the big cats like the leopard, lions, and many other carnivores. You will get to watch a number of herbivores like the rhinos grazing within the plains, elephants, gazelle, oribi, and many other rewarding game animals. After the morning game drives, you will transfer to Nyungwe Forest you will be driven southwards to Nyungwe Forest National Park watching a number of rewarding attractions like the rolling hills of Rwanda, the homesteads, and so on. You will have a stopover in Butare, where you will visit the National Museum of Rwanda, and the king’s palace in Nyanza with lunch en route. After lunch, you head to your lodge/ hotel. Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk
On day 3 of the 6 Days Rwanda Safari, enjoy breakfast and go for a briefing about the endangered chimpanzees before entering the forest in search of the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are much easier to spot as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimpanzee tracking usually takes about 3 hours. To find them, spend an hour while taking pictures and videos. You will then return to your hotel to freshen up, have lunch check out, and later in the afternoon participate in After lunch, you will go on a walking trail that will take you to the Canopy Walk-a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you thereafter connect to your accommodation to spend the evening at leisure Nyungwe top Hill View hotel (mid-range accommodation)
Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Have breakfast and connect to have the cultural experience offered by the park, get to interact with the local community around the park, and exit the park to connect to Volcanoes National Park via Kigali. You will have lunch from Kigali and continue to Ruhengeri town for the night in anticipation of the gorilla trek the following day. Day 5: Gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park
Gorilla Trekking: Have a light breakfast and grab your packed lunches and set out to the park headquarters at 7 am to get the morning brief before your trek on what to expect, the do’s and don’ts, and also get a chance to book your porter and all the hiking gear you may need. Set out into the forest in search of the gorillas. Trek with the rangers for about 2 to 7 hours according to the location of the gorillas. Once you meet these endangered animals, you will be allowed 1 hour to enjoy their presence and it is in this magical hour that you get to take photos and study the lifestyles of the mountain gorillas in their families as they go about their daily routines. Connect back to your accommodation for a late lunch and spend the evening at leisure. You may take on an optional community visit or cultural tour if you are feeling energetic. Get back to the lodge before the sun sets and have dinner and overnight as the night before.
Day 6: transfer back to Kigali
After breakfast, set out for your 2-hour drive to Kigali on reaching, you will have lunch and if you have more time you may visit the Kimironko market to purchase some local souvenirs for the people back home and also get to interact with the community.
Drop Off: You will be dropped off at your agreed location in Kigali which will mark the end of your trip.
