7 Days Rwanda Primates Safari Overview
Day 1; Kigali city tour and transfer to Volcanoes
You will enjoy breakfast and depart the hotel for the city tour visiting Kimironko market and the Kigali genocide memorial site. Have lunch at the historical Hotel des Mille Collins (hotel Rwanda) and later transfer to Musanze – home of Volcanoes national park arriving in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Muhabura.
Day 2; Gorilla Trekking Rwanda
Breakfast will be served early, depart with your lunch park and report to the park headquarters for an important briefing by the park ranger guides about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. It is also here that you will be allocated which gorilla group to trek. You will then head into the bamboo slopes of volcanoes national park and trek until you find the gorillas. This can last between 2 to 5 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas.
After finding the gorillas, you will be allowed 1 hour to view, photograph and record small videos as you please and later return to the assembly point for your certificate. Your guide will be waiting to transfer back to the lodge where you will spend the evening at leisure recovering from the trek. Dinner and overnight as above.
Day 3; Golden Monkey Trekking and transfer to Ruhija-Bwindi
You will have breakfast and report back to the park headquarters where you will get a ranger guide and start your golden monkey trekking in volcanoes national park. This is a rather short experience that can last an hour or three hours.
After trekking, meet the driver / guide and visit the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo after which you will cross to Uganda via the Cyanika border with lunch en-route and proceed to Rujiha – part of Bwindi impenetrable forest to Gorilla mist camp. Check in and enjoy a community walk to stretch your legs and a traditional dance will spice up your evening. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla mist camp.
Day 4; Game drive Ishasha and Boat Cruise
You will have breakfast and transfer to Ishasha sector for the morning game drive which starts at 10:00 am. Gorilla mist camp is relatively close so you will arrive well in time and enjoy the game drive in this less explored part of the park with chances of spotting the tree climbing lions.
After the game drive, proceed to the Mweya peninsular and enjoy lunch at Mweya safari lodge followed by the afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga channel where you will enjoy lots of game viewing and bird watching. After the cruise, you will proceed to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Queen Elizabeth Bush Lodge.
Day 5; Game drive and transfer to Kibale
You will have breakfast and go for the morning game drive visiting the kasenyi sector where you will visit the katwe salt pans as well. After the game drive, exit the park and transfer to Kibale national park with lunch en-route in Fort portal town. Dinner and overnight at Chimpanzee Forest Guest House.
Day 6; Chimpanzee tracking and Nature Walk
Breakfast will be served early and go for chimpanzee tracking in Kibale forest national park. The ranger guides will enrich you with more information about the forest and the tree species as well and you will find this rather interesting in addition to the chimpanzees. After tracking, return to the lodge to clean up and enjoy lunch.
In the afternoon, you will go for a guided nature walk in the Bigodi wetland area with lots of birds and beautiful butterflies. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight as above.
Day 7; Kampala and airport transfer
You will have breakfast and transfer to Kampala driving across the green countryside with small towns and schools. Have lunch in Kampala and transfer to Entebbe airport for your departure back home.
